About

Mary Catherine Kelly is an artist and designer dividing her time between South Dakota and Atlanta, Georgia.

Though she was born and raised in small-town South Dakota, her love of cityscapes and the architectural details lending character to build environments serves as the foundation of her studio practice. Mary paints primarily in watercolors, and her work tends to depict buildings, façades, and other manmade structures, which she renders with harsh shadows and deep colors achieved through extensive layering.

Mary graduated summa cum laude from Dakota Wesleyan University with BAs in studio art and digital media design, the latter of which built her skills in graphic design, web design, photography, and marketing, in addition to allowing her to hone the development and implementation of digital content strategies. This provided her with a foundation to which she often refers in her professional life: she has redesigned and maintained websites, and she’s written copy and created content for the social media profiles of different organizations. She has also digitized several exhibitions for Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) and solidified its archive of previous shows.

In addition to creating art, Mary loves learning about art, and she fell in love with the study of art history during the completion of her undergraduate degrees. She intends to build a career in arts administration, and at the time of this website’s publication, she looks forward to gaining further experience in the world of art and design before pursuing an MA in art history.

Beyond art, Mary loves traveling, reading, taking pictures, and baking vegan pastries. She also loves her Boykin spaniel Franny (very, very much).
